Generation “Why?”

The danger of asking Why? all the time.

It puts us in a vicious circle of confusion. When we are never satisfied with the answer we are given. We constantly seek to validate everything in existence to see if it’s worthy of our effort or attention.

It’s gone from Generation X

to

Generation Why?

I imagine most of us, especially students looking like this the majority of the time. Image

Trying to make sense of concepts that are far beyond our intellect. It’s a vain attempt of man trying to be it’s own God and if we don’t understand it, we dismiss it as a theory or a possibility but nothing to take too seriously. It goes into the archive drawer of our mind, behind the more Frequently used files of Darwin, Nietzsche, or Einstein while morality is neatly tucked away not to be seen under the bed tagged “cute ideas” but really the thought of implementing them would be Repulsive!

It would mean giving up my right to think! to be unique! My individuality! Being Different! And i’ll actually have to be…Submissive!

Hold up, before you think I’m advocating becoming a mindless drone. The Bible does say:

1 Thessalonians 5:21- Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

1 John 4

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

I once heard a wise man say that (not in the exact words) we are so quick to change and make something new that we neglect the old that never needed changing in the first place. Why fix what’s not broken? Why reinvent the wheel? “Oh, cuz it doesn’t let me go fast enough, It holds me back. I don’t want any restraints. I want to be Free!”

Well….free you will be. Without value, substance and freedom is not the ability to do whatever you want, when you want to do it, it’s rather the ability to function within a set of rules to protect you from being enslaved by yourself or others. I don’t think committing a crime against someone would help with their freedom, not you having to go to jail would help yours either.

Think about it. Let that simmer.

I’m not saying not to question and think for yourself. Please don’t get me wrong. But when it gets to the point when we’re never satisfied, even when we are given exactly what we need but it’s not the answer that WE want, then we have a problem.

This, as i can foresee, because i too am a victim of this way of thinking (studying literature at University level in 2 different languages including critiques in your own can do that to you) comes down to the topic (not  question or issue) of Truth.

“What is Truth? Where can we find it? How do we know that’s true? Where did it come from? Why is it so rigid? It doesn’t make me feel good so it must not be true. Meh! who cares…it’s my life anways. You’re not the boss of me!”

Any of those lines sound familiar?

2 Timothy 3

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.

If i had to break it down for my child (in time i may well have to) it would go a little something like this:

There is a God. He is Real. He is far beyond ALL our thinking or imagination so don’t even try to  figure Him all out. He has laid a foundation that is simple, yet paradoxical for us to live and operate in. There is nothing wrong with questions, and in time all of them will be answered. But as for now. This is how it is, and it will not change.

We are subject to His authority and He has made everything beautiful. Man has tainted the Paradise that He has made and now we are paying the price for it. Yes God loves us. He loves us SOOO much that He sent His only begotten Son to free us from what has enslaved us. But as long as we continue to do bad, He must punish the bad. The bad is called Sin, and he hates it. It hurts, lies and it Kills and God cannot let it live. He may not correct it in the time or way we may think He would, but when He does, it will be dealt with for all time.

The Bible is His amazing gift of that Truth to us in a way that we can have with us at all times and that will direct us, if we let it. Yes He used men to write it. He uses men to do many other things as well. But nothing else but God can come from God. Meaning that nothing that is not true, right and pure can come from God and that is what He has given to us, despite the way that He did it, and there are many examples of that in the Bible (Christ used spit and dirt to heal a blind man, God used a murderer to free His people from slavery, God spoke through a donkey to one of His servants, etc.)

So i suggest that you do even as the previous bible verses were saying and test to see if what i’m saying is true, and then let’s break the circle of being Generation Why and become a “Generation Yes Lord, Thy Will be done” (it’s long, but it sounds way cooler).

God bless you all.
